Painting

Exhibition text for “Women and art,” 8 March to 6 June 2004 at the Museum of Bohusläns: Cecilia (Cissy) Salaries (1868 - 1954), born in Uddevalla, did not start painting until the age of 40. Her ill health (“clone nerves”) led her to need hospitalization in Gothenburg. It was in this environment that she met a teacher who gave her impulses to start painting. The painting became an excellent nerve medicine for her. Studies at the Ingeborg Eggertz Painting School in Gothenburg followed this. As an ambitious portrait painter, she was active in Uddevalla well up in the years. In the town hall there is a portrait of Mayor Otto Emil Sandegren, probably painted after his death.
