Reflections on the Mentor-Mentee Relationship

Abstract A successful mentoring relationship can bring significant benefits to the mentee in terms of academic research productivity and career satisfaction. Through their mentees, mentors can also traverse new and fulfilling research directions. Here, we reflect on our own mentor-mentee relationship from both of our vantage points. We offer advice on how to choose a mentee/mentor, what each person needs to bring to the relationship, and how the relationship changes with time. Summary: We reflect on how mentors and mentees can make their relationship fulfilling and successful for both.
