Abstract: As a brief explanation, this major study on Marco Polo’s Le devisement du monde from 2013 has not yet been reviewed in Mediaevistik, and since the publisher only recently (2022) made an e-book copy available, I opted to write at least a brief review to pay credit to a truly far-reaching and insightful study that deserves our full attention. Although only a fairly slim volume, Gaunt develops intriguing and very sensitive readings of this most fascinating narrative account that will have a major impact on future approaches to Polo’s text.
