Brigade Commander (I), November 1862-October 1863
View through CrossRef
This chapter presents letters of Ramseur that concentrate on love and war from the appointment to a new post as brigade commander until his wedding at the end of October 1863. It notes that Ramseur had spent part of his convalescence visiting with his cousin, Ellen Richmond, at Woodside, her father's frame house on high ground two miles outside of Milton. The chapter observes that familial fondness in earlier years had developed into true ardor, which ended up in marriage, and further, that Ramseur's love for Nellie and eager anticipation of their union in autumn were dominant in his correspondence at the outset of 1863, reflecting an unusually strong affection for his betrothed.
