COLOSTOMY: A REVIEW

View through CrossRef
A colostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdomen to allow feces to pass out of the body. It is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the large intestine is brought out through an opening in the abdomen. The opening is called a stoma, and a bag is attached to it to collect feces. This writing involves conducting a thorough analysis of existing literature on colostomy and it’s care to identify gaps, inconsistencies and areas of further research. This review can help researchers to develop a more comprehensive understanding of colostomy and identify research questions, and develop hypotheses to be tested in future research. It explores colostomy formation as a method of bowel management in patients with SCI, considers the optimal time for colostomy formation after injury and examines issues for health professionals. The practices of the caregivers of patients improved remarkably after the health teaching. Health teaching is highly effective in improving in the knowledge and practices of caregivers regarding colostomy care. All patients were able to self-care practices successfully after education. This also indicated that colostomy in children was acceptable to most parents in our environment.
