Saccharomyces cerevisiae Ess1

Abstract
The ESS1 gene was originally isolated by cross-hybridization with the simian sarcoma virus oncogene v-sis, known to promote the G1/S transition. However, Ess1 protein bears little similarity to p28s/s. ESS1 mapped to the right arm of chromosome 10 and was not allelic to any known yeast mutation (Hanes et al., 1989). PTF1 was identified in a screen for pre-mRNA processing mutants defective in 3’-end formation (Hani etal., 1995).
