On the issue of diabetic retinopathy in the Kurgan region

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in the world is increasing every year. In 54% of patients, DM remains undiagnosed. Every third patient with DM develops diabetic retinopathy (DR) at some stage of his life, which is the main cause of blindness in the working-age population of developed countries and is among the leading causes of vision loss in the age group over 65 years. The article analyzes the prevalence of DR in the Kurgan region over the past five years and the provision of high-tech ophthalmological medical care to these patients over the past three years. Thus, the number of patients with diabetes in the Kurgan region increases from 4.3 to 5.4% every year, and the number of patients who have received high-tech medical care for DR is also increasing.
