Career Education Directions in the Maritime and Shipbuilding Industry from a Convergence Perspective
View through CrossRef
This study aims to analyze the impact of changes in the maritime and shipbuilding industry on career education and propose an education model based on convergence education. To achieve this, in-depth interviews were conducted with entrepreneurs who have adopted new technologies in the maritime and shipbuilding sector, identifying the characteristics of industrial and technological convergence as well as the necessary job competencies. The findings reveal that the maritime and shipbuilding industry is undergoing not only technological advancements but also a fundamental structural transformation through convergence. In response, it is essential to introduce industry-linked convergence education, practice-based problem-solving learning, and interdisciplinary education models. In particular, convergent skills are increasingly emphasized in areas such as smart shipyard operations, eco-friendly ship development, and the digital transformation of maritime logistics. Accordingly, education in AI, IoT, and digital twin technologies should be reinforced. This study provides career education directions to support the sustainable development of the maritime and shipbuilding industry, contributing to a stronger link between industry and education.
