Applique for horse ammo
View through Europeana Collections
Round in shape and smooth narrow curb. The following is a circle of pearl ornament that surrounds the bust of a winged god (or goddess?). The head is in high relief, the face is oval, with elongated eyes with marked pupils located beneath the arched eyebrows. The nose is correct, the lips are dense, dense large strands descend on both sides of the face and over the forehead. On the head of the deity is a modeled ivy wreath with a band winded around it, whose ends descend on the shoulders. The wing plumage is conveyed in the smallest detail. Through the left shoulder is the nebride, and above the left wing you can see a tir. Identifying the character is difficult because his iconography and attributes converge him with Eros, Nike and Dionysus. It is noteworthy, however, that the symbolism - ivy wreath, tirz and nebrida is Dionysos, only the wings violate the conventional iconography of the god. Images of Dionysus with wings, with one of the three Kabirs found in Etruscan mirrors. Elka Penkova
