Ритон, детайл
View through Europeana Collections
The name of Eriope is not found in other monuments, as well as in the legends of Dionysus. Eriopa is mentioned as the mother of Ajax in the Homeric epic (Iliad XIII, 697). In the description of the scene on the riton, many authors call it bacchanka, although the torrent has definitely distinguished it from the dancing women of Dionysos. It was also suggested that the characters depicted were Dionysus and his wife Ariadne. Dionysus and his mother Semela, at the time of her removal from the shadow world and inclusion in the world of immortal gods, are represented in stories on Etruscan mirrors.
