Az ipari forradalom, a kitáguló világ, a kezdődő globalizáció gyermekeként lelkesen vallotta a tudás és a tudomány mindenhatóságát, folyamatosan képezte önmagát, könyvtárba járt, vitakörök tagjaként szívesen beszélgetett a társadalmi változásokról, technológiai vívmányokról. Írásai segítségével nemcsak a viktoriánus Ausztrália életébe, de az általa elképzelt jövőbe is betekintést nyerhetünk.
Milyen gondolatok foglalkoztatták leginkább ezt a folyton tanulni vágyó férfit?
