The Elizabeth 7.5-minute quadrangle is located east of Castle Rock, Colorado, in the southern part of the Colorado Piedmont section of the Great Plains. The quadrangle is located in the Running Creek and Kiowa Creek drainage basins, which are tributary to the South Platte River. Geologic mapping of the Elizabeth quadrangle was undertaken by the Colorado Geological Survey (CGS) as part of the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program. Geologic maps produced by the CGS through the STATEMAP program are intended as multi-purpose maps useful for land-use planning, geotechnical engineering, geologic hazards assessment, mineral resource development, and ground-water evaluation.
