PR-244-173605-R01 Improving Corrosion ILI Sizing Models for Long Complex Corrosion Anomalies

The PRCI Corrosion Technical Committee was interested in improving ILI sizing analysis for long complex corrosion. A parallel PRCI research project, EC-4-5 Quantification of ILI Sizing Errors and Improving Correction Factors performed by C-FER, collected data and performed analysis to develop correction factors for ILI sizing errors based on high-resolution non-destructive laser scan data. The goals of this project are to expand on the parallel PRCI project EC-4-5 by developing burst pressure correction factors for long complex corrosion. This goal is achieved by determining the types of corrosion morphologies that could be classified as long complex corrosion (e.g., deep pits in general corrosion, corrosion bridging where corrosion clusters are separated by smaller anomalies), and developing correction factors for the burst pressure estimate that account for the effects of various interaction rules.
