OF-12-04 Geologic Map of the Elbert Quadrangle, Elbert and El Paso Counties, Colorado
View through CrossRef
The purpose of this publication is to map the bedrock geologic units and surficial deposits of this 7.5-minute quadrangle located northeast of the Colorado Springs metro area in east-central Colorado. Much of this quadrangle is covered in Quaternary deposits, but erosion in the tributary creeks has exposed bedrock formations of the Denver Basin. These range in age from Eocene to Cretaceous. The youngest bedrock formation is the Castle Rock Conglomerate, which is discussed in greater detail in the CGS publication OF-16-01 New Paleocurrent Measurements, Clast Population Data, and Age Dates in the Late Eocene Castle Rock Conglomerate, East-Central Colorado.
