painting (gouache): ["An Italian Street Scene"]

Beautifully light and detailed miniature. A wide road stretches into the distance. On the left hand side, the line of trees bordering the road is broken by a large gateway set in a wall at near left. One of the lower sections of gate is open and two figures stand near by. Two statues stand on pillars either side of the gate. Another building stands to the left further down the road. A large building with loggia and smoking chimney stands to the near right. Some store sheds stand against the near wall. Two figures stand under the loggia and a horse and cart waits nearby. A horse and cart travels up the road and a singular figure is on the road in the middle distance. A woman carrying pails(?) stands in the middle foreground and another figure bends down at her feet.
