View through Europeana Collections
Baroni Alexander (3/6/1813, Prague - 29/5/1890, Baden near Vienna), August (25/8/1805 - 25/8/1883, Baden near Vienna) and Wilhelm (5/7/1811 - 9/3/1866, Vienna) Koller in acting costumes. The vase is a memorial to the near-identified amateur theatrical performance of Koller brothers in Prague’s Clam-Gallasian Palace, held sometime around 1822. Count Kristian Kryštof Clam-Gallas (1771-1838), a great supporter of art and amateur painter, was said to have made such vases for all actors of the performance. August, Wilhelm and Alexander were sons of Baron František Koller (1767-1826), a renowned Austrian general. The eldest son August (see his miniature of Invs. chr. H2-7402) devoted himself to politics in adulthood, acting as an Austrian envoy and inheriting his father’s penchant for collecting. Prostření Wilhelm became an officer in the Austrian army and the youngest Alexandr became a general and later he became sadly famous as a harsh supporter of the Czech opposition in the position of the viceroy of Prague (1868-1870 and again 1871-1874). His son, Alexander Jr. (1850, Vys.Mýto - 1915, Vienna), c. k. the court council, which dedicated family monuments to NM, died out in the sword.
