Bactériocinogénie et typisation de Streptococcus faecalis

Eighty-one wild strains of <i>Streptococcus faecalis </i>were cross-tested for enterocin production and enterocin sensitivity. All strains were found to be sensitive to one or more enterocins, while only 65’% of the strains produced enterocins. None of the strains was sensitive to its own enterocin. The grouping of 130 strains of <i>S. faecalis </i>by enterocin sensitivity-typing using 6 producer strains and by enterocin production-typing using 6 indicator strains allows one to distinguish between 13 sensitivity types and 10 production types, giving altogether 25 groups of combined typing. Simultaneous use of both typing methods could be an effective procedure in epidemiological studies.
