Nikos Charalambidis' artwork, "Brillo Defender, Kill Classicists belongs to a broader cycle of the artist's work of the 1990s where he introduces a thematology that deals with a range of historical and socio-political issues, such as wars, violent expatriation and refugeeism, globalization, etc. His compositions are enriched with self-referential elements, symbolism and allegory, often interconnected with philosophical extensions. He delves into the management of historical archival material, intertwining it with contemporary data and events, such as the humanitarian, ideological, and cultural crises.
Most of Nikos Charalambidis' work is consisted of site-specific installations and constructions, performances, videos and other digital applications, recommending a very special visual language with a variety of media and techniques.
His early creations are dominated by a strong political content referring to his childhood experiences and the history of Cyprus as his birthplace. Since then, his subjects continue to concern the current socio-political reality, globalization, consumerism, ideological and cultural crises, and they end up acquiring complex conceptual meanings and at the same time multiple interpretive approaches.
Charalambidis deals mainly with the concepts of identity and citizenship which are represented by different visual interventions in order to construct a critical and political discourse in his work.
