El año pasado, Demetria Martínez, Hershel Wisse y quien esto escribe empezamos el proyecto de dar a conocer la poesía de Emma Lazarus (Nueva York, 1849-1887) a través de la traducción al español de una selección de sus poemas. Aunque Lazarus es conocida en los Estados Unidos por su poema “El nuevo Coloso”, que se encuentra inscrito en la base de la Estatua de la Libertad, el resto de su poesía se lee poco. Esperamos que con este proyecto la poesía de Emma Lazarus pueda empezar a leerse también en español. El poema que aquí presentamos está incluido en el libro Admetus y otros poemas, publicado en Nueva York por Hurd and Houghton en 1871.
