Sofonisba Anguissola, nascida entre 1532 e 1538 (data mais aceita hoje), é a mais velha de 7 irmãos, sendo 6 mulheres, entre as quais 4 (Sofonisba, Lucia, Europa e Ana Maria), chegaram a pintar, Elena (que se tornou monja), Minerva (que se dedicou às letras), e um homem, Asdrúbale.
