Vision of Renseibō (vom Bearbeiter vergebener Titel)

The picture shows a scene with connection to the Heike Monogatari Das 物様 (narrative about the Taira family). The priest Rüsselbō on a bridge when he has a vision. In this vision he sees the young Atsumori In, who is preparing for the war against the Minamoto and is saying goodbye. Atsumori was in command of the troops of Ichi-no-tani. The city was considered impregnable, but the Minamoto army was able to invade over a hill. Atsumori was one of the last to leave the city and was killed by Kumagai Naozane At様, a general of the Minamoto, before he could get himself safe. Kumagai had previously been reluctant to kill the Atsumori, as he was still very young. Kumagai repented of his deed, entered the monk’s stall after the war and was henceforth called Rensei hōshi 様様様 The two main persons are marked with name plates. The text above tells the related story. The leaf from the Stoclet collection is hand-colored (cf. Lit: Sotheby 's). The leaf here is severely damaged at the top. The paper is concealed. On the right edge a narrow part of the lower leaf can be seen, which has Tuschedruck and orange color.
