This Introduction sets the scene for what is to come. It starts with some initial remarks about the relation between practical and theoretical reasoning. It gives an initial explanation of the title of the book. It introduces the notion of the Primacy of the Practical, and tries to explain what is meant by calling the account offered here a minimalist and a focalist one. There is then an outline of the general structure of the book, with a brief run through the topics of the following chapters.
