Case series: melioidosis at Takeo Provincial referral hospital, Cambodia
View through CrossRef
The U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases International Center of Excellence in Research in Cambodia (ICER Cambodia) is collaborating with the Cambodia Communicable Disease Center (CCDC) and Cambodian regional hospitals to study the landscape of bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Cambodia. The objective of the collaboration is to use next-generation sequencing techniques to discover common and novel AMR genes in bacterial isolates to inform national surveillance and clinical practice.
In January 2023, a workshop was held with the following objectives: 1) to establish fundamental understanding of how genomics can enhance AMR surveillance in Cambodia and 2) to understand practical applications and feasibility of applying genomics in microbiological laboratories in Cambodia. This presentation describes a series of positive
Burkholderia pseudomallei
cases identified by Takeo Provincial Referral Hospital's microbiology laboratory and confirmed via next-generation sequencing by ICER Cambodia.
