Sculpture. Herm.

View through Europeana Collections
Double herm showing a male and a female theatrical mask. The male mask, covered by a lion’s head, and probably representing Herakles, has bored pupils, open mouth, and a full beard. The female mask, also with bored pupils and open mouth, framed by hair, hanging in spiral locks, largely worked with a drill, probably represent Omphale, Megara or another heroine associated with Herakles. Fine-grained, slightly veined, white marble with a pale greyish surface.
