Portrait George III., King of Great Britain (1738-1820)

View through Europeana Collections
Portrait of George III., King of Great Britain. The British monarch is presented here as a chest pattern to the right, the view on the right leaf margin stapled. He wears a decorated coat with a high collar, including a sash and a short wig. On his left shoulder, the chest star of the Order of the Hoses denounces. The portrait is oval. George III was king of Britain and Ireland from 1760 to 1801, then king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death. He came from the house of Hanover, but is the first of his tribe born in Britain. Even after Händel’s death, he preferred his music to the living English composer. Johann Friedrich Bolt stabbed the leaf in Berlin in 1792. The template is not known, but could possibly be Christian Müller, who created the same motif, of which a specimen is now in the Duke August library in Wolfenbüttel. Other copies of the present paper are now in the art collections of Veste Coburg and Leipzig University Library. Signature: J. F. Bolt sculp: Berlin 1792. Synopsis: George III king v.
