Le voyage de Maurice Halbwachs à Berlin et Vienne en 1910-1911

En octobre 1910, Maurice Halbwachs bénéficiait d’une bourse de voyage nouvellement créée à l’Université de Paris par le mécène David David-Weill pour se rendre à Berlin puis à Vienne. Ce voyage, connu jusqu’ici par le seul biais de son expulsion de Berlin en décembre, est ici réexaminé à la lumière du rapport inédit rendu par Halbwachs au rectorat et au mécène. Ce document, intégralement reproduit, permet d’éclairer les conditions de son voyage, la genèse de sa thèse sur la classe ouvrière et les niveaux de vie, ainsi que la place de l’Allemagne et de ses savants dans son parcours intellectuel.
