Fictions: The Pilgrim’s Progress, the New ‘Novels’, and Love and Erotica

An examination of marketing of the wide variety of popular forms of fiction, including John Bunyan’s didactic The Pilgrim’s Progress, which enjoyed continuing popularity. There was an increase of titles using the term ‘novel’, and a continuation of titles called romances, while there was a marked increase in titles which were erotica or pornographic political satires.
