Three wars fought between Romans and Carthaginians (

. The first was one of the longest in history (264–241), the second (218–201) notable for the generalship of the Carthaginian Hannibal and the Roman Scipio, and the third (149–146) for the total destruction of Carthage by Scipio's adopted grandson and namesake.
