Assess the effectiveness of non-surgical treatment of peri-implantitis

Background: Dental implants are the most effective and modern method to replace missing teeth.The implant’s success rate and long-term survival depend on many factors, in which the peri-implantitis plays an important role. Objectives: The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of non-surgical treatment of peri-implantitis. Materials and methods: Descriptive, prospective study design of clinical trial without control group. The sample included 38 patients with 40 single restorations on the implant with mild peri-implantitis. The patients received oral hygiene instructions, management of screw loosening and cleaning of the implant surface. Data collection included gingival bleeding index (BOP), plaque index (PlI), gingival index (GI), pocket depth (PD), and bone loss (BL) in intraoral periapical X-rays recorded at baseline. Three months and six months after treatment, the indices of gingival bleeding (BOP), pocket depth (PD), bone loss (BL) were recorded. Results: After three months and six months, a statistically significant improvement (p<0.05) could be demonstrated for clinical indicators (BOP, PD, BL). Conclusion: Non-surgical treatment has a positive impact on peri-implantitis. Key words: Non-surgical treatment, peri-implantitis
