Sebastian Grabowiecki jako tłumacz Psalmów Bernarda Tassa

The article focuses on the poetry of Sebastian Grabowiecki, specifically the translations of Bernard Tass’s psalms. Several selected works were subjected to a comparative analysis, ex- amining the strategy adopted by the translator. While maintaining the formal structure of the translated poems, Grabowiecki modifies some topical images characteristic of the poetic tradition of Italy. However, no major differences were noticed in the translations that would indicate a polemical approach to religious issues and certain aspects of the Italian poet’s reformist spirituality. The conclusion is that Grabowiecki, one of the first Polish translators of poetry written in a modern language, introduced many new lyrical forms to Polish poetry and belongs to the group of those poets/translators whose works took a primary position in the emerging polysystem of Polish literature.
