Laser Facial Modulation after Cheiloplasty: The Teixeira-Pinheiro Technique (2025)

View through CrossRef
This chapter explores the Teixeira-Pinheiro Technique (2025), an innovative method employing picosecond Nd: YAG lasers for the remodelling of post-surgical hypertrophic scars which remains a frequent challenge in patients undergoing corrective cheiloplasty for cleft lip deformities. The chapter details the methods of a prospective observational study involving over thirty patients, all treated with picosecond Nd: YAG lasers. The results show the marked clinical and aesthetic aspect improvements in all participants of the treated scars, with minimal adverse effects, underscoring the picosecond laser’s potential in inducing controlled photomechanical damage, ideal for delicate facial areas. The discussion delves into the technique’s safety and efficacy, and proposes the integration of non-ablative biomodulatory lasers in the early postoperative phase for even more robust scar prevention. We conclude that the Teixeira-Pinheiro Technique (2025) establishes laser therapy as a first-line treatment for surgical and post-traumatic scars or contractures, highlighting the picosecond Nd: YAG laser. The chapter also discusses its low morbidity, minimal damage to superficial skin layers, and the significant functional and aesthetic benefits observed. We reaffirm the need for future research to validate and optimise these approaches as laser technology continues to evolve, promising even greater advancements in patient aesthetics and health.
