Construction

Gustav Klucis initially began creating Cubist compositions, but after his encounter with Malevich, he transitioned to artworks influenced by Suprematism. However, he followed his own artistic path, focusing on artworks of a constructivist nature that explored dynamic forms, technical processin and common materials. During the 1920s, he produced a plethora of drawings and engravings, such as the artwork "Construction," which belongs to the collection of the Museum of Modern Art - Costakis Collection. These artworks investigated the possibilities of using linear structures often combined with three-dimensional architectural forms. Typically, these drawings pertained to monumental, mobile pieces that would be placed on the streets, serving the ideological propaganda of the new regime. They embodied the constructivist approach to material and form, emphasizing the material substance of space and volume, and embraced the ideal of socially useful art.
