Industrial images, pollution and waste have replaced the traditional countryside idyll. Yang uses the tradition of Shan Shui, with his detailed views of mountainous landscapes and scholars, to create a "new world of illusions, a vision between dreams and nightmares, futuristic and ancient at the same time".
