Personality Traits And Academic Achievements Of University Students

View through CrossRef
The purpose of the present study was to study the relationship between student’s personality traits and their academic performance. The data collection is based on the online sample survey (Google Form) from university students in Pakistan and used a brief version of the Big-Five Personality Inventory (BFI-10) to elicit information about the strength and direction of the relationship between students’ personality traits and academic performance. Pearson`s correlation between student personality traits and academic achievements showed that extroversion and neuroticism negatively correlate with academic performance. Openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness are positively correlated with academic performance. Found that there is a significant correlation between student`s personality traits and their performance in education. This shows the higher the neuroticism and extroversion, lower will be the performance of the students in education. On the other hand, high agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness are positively correlated with academic performance. Students' personalities can be modified to improve their performance in education. Neurotics should practice positive affirmations, and extroverts should monitor their behaviours. Agreeable should know where they need to be empathetic as it might not be good for them to be empathetic in every situation and they should not ignore their needs. Open students should use their ability to explore new things in academics to help them attain new skills. Keywords: Student`s Personality Traits, Academic Achievement. Openness
