INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS OF POLYHERBAL GEL ON PHENOL-INDUCED ORAL APHTHOUS ULCERS IN RATS

View through CrossRef
Aphthous ulcers, commonly known as canker sores, are among the most widespread oral diseases globally. They typically occur on the non-keratinized mucosal surfaces inside the mouth, including the inner lips, floor of the mouth, and the underside of the tongue. Herbal therapy plays an important role in the healing process of diseases without causing any significant side effects. This study investigates the effects of polyherbal gel (PHG) on phenol-induced oral aphthous ulcers in rats. The rats were randomly assigned to five experimental groups; PHG 5%, 10% and 20% w/V were administered topically to the ulcerated mucosa over a period of seven days respectively. PHG at low, middle and higher dose revealed a significant (P < 0.01) improvement in ulceration healing rate and degree of healing of ulcer area and also diminished the severity of edema and hyperemia located at the ulcer. These findings suggest that PHG may enhance the effectiveness of improving oral aphthous ulceration.

Description:
PHG at low, middle and higher dose revealed a significant (P < 0.
01) improvement in ulceration healing rate and degree of healing of ulcer area and also diminished the severity of edema and hyperemia located at the ulcer.
These findings suggest that PHG may enhance the effectiveness of improving oral aphthous ulceration.
