Girdle of braided silk and metal thread, possibly made in France or Italy, ca. 1540-1580. Girdle of braided silk and metal thread. Length of passementerie, probably intended for a girdle. It is intact with decorative knots weighting it at each end. The two outer elements are of narrow green silk braid with metal thread (gilt strip wound around a white silk core) wound in and out in regular groups of loops. These are joined cross-wise at intervals with short braids of green silk and metal thread, and between them linking them, are open and tight knots of metal thread. Braided silk and metal thread.
