Buckle

View through Europeana Collections
Buckle with a rectangular convex frame, formed by a ribbon cut with alternating ovals and circles between mouldings. On the reverse, a double latch composed of two pins in the shape of a de, one of them with two prongs. These elements are articulated by means of a hinge with a double pin. \This buckle is identical to the one that adorns the Segovian women's shoe CE08494 in the Museo del Traje collection. CIPE. On this occasion the buckle is attached to the ear or tongue of the shoe, a part located at the lower end of the vamp; hence the ornament is disproportionate in relation to its support. These Segovian shoes were acquired in the antiques market and everything indicates that the buckle is a false, added element.
