Buckle
View through Europeana Collections
Buckle with a convex frame in the form of a transverse rectangle with arched sides. On the base plate, with linear and circular incisions, superimposed decoration of helical hemispheres on the corners, palmettes on the larger sides and plant motifs on the smaller sides, all in gilded silver. On the reverse, a vertical pin with a spike and a truncated pyramid-shaped lock with two spikes. \In the Spanish context this type of buckles reproduce throughout the nineteenth century models that had been fashionable in Europe during the previous century. They are very baroque pieces from the decorative point of view and still with a functionality in relation to the tongue of the shoe. As for their use, they are buckles ordered for wedding shoes or special occasions, always related to traditional clothing.
