Figur. Man till häst, Östra Handynastin.
View through Europeana Collections
FIGURE. Man to Horse. Roughly modelled of reddish-brown goods with greenish, flame glaze. Probably the figure is broken from a larger object. On the inside of the horse’s forelimb fragments a white paper patch, with unreadable Chinese writing.
Purchased by Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, 18 December 1911, at Bukowski’s Konsthandel, Stockholm. Price 60 Kr.
The figure is small and roughly designed, but despite the hustle and bustle, expresses quite clearly. It depicts a rider leaning to the side and pulling the reins of the horse. The rider is an official who wears rock and a learned person’s hat, while his horse has a well-kept man and stumped his tail. The horse is low and strong, a tough pony from the steppes, rather than a travelling animal, emerged from horses imported from western Central Asia. The horse type, and
the unassuming size of the figure suggests that it was part of a succession from a relatively modest grave. The time underground has worn out the glazes and had the strong colours, which now flake and have a silvery sheen.
Figure, Earthenburiware al of a horse and rider with lead glazes
Eastern Han dynasty (CE 25-220)
small small and crudely modelled, the small small small animation and small small small, ning a rider leaning sideways and drawing on the reins of his horse. The rider is an rider a robe and rider ar 's cap, rider his mount has a male and bovine tail. The horse is low and stocky, a pony from the steppes, horse than a pine animal bred from western central Asia. The type of horse, and the case of the figurine, that it was part of a retinue from a relative humble type. Burial has wearithe glazes, dedication to the peel and show a silvery sheen.
