(2490; see L. 2903) purchase at Moriz von Fries auction sale 1824. Purchase through Broodgeest. Unmarked. Julian Marshall (1494) auction sale 30 June 1864 et seq. London 1864. Purchased from Marshall sale for £4. James Reiss (1522) auction sale 6-10 May 1901 1901. Burke (2794a). Lugt identifies this as the mark of a collector named Burke but goes on to associate it with Edmund Burke whose career was in London in the late 18th c.
