Pair of joined bobbin lace lappets, Flanders, 1770s. Pair of joined bobbin lace lappets, in one continuous piece. Fond de glace ground patterned with two parallel lined which zig zag down the length of the lappet, each running from the extreme edge to the centre. The lines consist of open linked medallions, crossed at intervals by leaf-shaped medallions and develop into small sprays of flowers in the centre of the lappets. The outlines of the medallions are worked in cloth stitch with a gimp outline. The majority of the centres are filled with simple zig zag lines, but there also are wheat ear and honeycomb fillings.
