Pierre-Alexandre DuPeyrou

This chapter highlights Jean-Jacques Rousseau's letter to Pierre-Alexandre DuPeyrou on April 22, 1765. Rousseau begins the letter by claiming that “friendship is so sacred a thing that the word must not even be employed in ordinary usage.” He then tells DuPeyrou that he formerly had an epithet that he believes he deserve more than ever; in Paris, he was only called “The Citizen.” Rousseau asks DuPeyrou to give him back this title which is so dear to him and which he has paid for so dearly. He also mentions DuPeyrou's note concerning Theodore de Bèze, reformer of Neufchatel prior to Calvin.
