An exploratory study of lexicography

View through CrossRef
There are two major types of lexicography: Practical lexicography and Theoretical lexicography. In the past, glossaries were compiled to facilitate the use of religious books. At the beginning, the compilation of glossaries has been done by Christian priests in Europe and by Hindu priests in India. English Dictionaries were introduced in the West as a result of the compilation of Glossaries for religious information sources. Also, Sanskrit Dictionaries were introduced in India as a result of compiling Nighandus (volumes Compiled bySanskrit word lists). It can be seen that lexicography has matured in the face of linguistic needs that have arisen over time. Later dictionaries were developed into various types such as monolingual dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries and multilingual dictionaries. The Dictionary can be identified as a reference source which provides a linguistic contribution for the Users.
