Henri Le Sidaner et la Région Nord/ Pas-de- Calais

Henri Le Sidaner (1862-1939) kept all through his life and career privileged links with the Nord/ Pas-de-Calais region. Several causes explain this attachment. The family of the young Henri Le Sidaner settled in Dunkirk, when this latter was only 10. It was to be in this town that he was introduced to drawing and painting before attending Cabanel's classes in Paris. The town of Dunkirk awarded him, for this reason and for three years, a grand which preserved him for some time from material worries. His aesthetic sensitivity always led him to picture the lights of the Nord and Belgian landscapes. On his first stays in Etaples and on the Côte d'Opale, he made friends with several artists of the region and above all with the Duhem couple with whom he always entertained durable and privileged relations. Thus, the work itself of this artist is fraught with the atmosphere of the Nord/ Pas-de-Calais region, and can be admired in many collections either public or private.
