Abstract
Deletion of the SED5 gene is lethal. When cells are depleted of Sed5 protein by repression of a GAL promoterSEDS fusion gene, transport of proteins from the ER to the Golgi is blocked and there is an accumulation of ER membranes and small vesicles1 The DNA sequence of the SED5 gene (GenBank accession number X66980) predicts a protein of 340 amino acids (39 kDa).
