ART GALLERIES IN THE CULTURAL SPACE OF A MODERN CITY (BASED ON THE RESEARCH OF KRASNODAR GALLERIES)

View through CrossRef
Art galleries occupy a special place in the cultural space of a modern city; they introduce the viewer to new works, cultivate artistic taste, study and preserve the most significant works of art for future generations, and form the regional and national art market. The purpose of the article is to study art galleries as educational centers and a factor in the formation of urban cultural space based on the material of Krasnodar. To study art galleries as a factor in the formation of the city’s cultural space, an analysis of Krasnodar’s Internet resources was carried out in order to identify the features of the self-presentation of galleries in the cultural landscape of the city. To identify the value systems of gallery owners, the method of in-depth interviews was used using the author's questionnaire. The results of a study of Internet content showed that the majority of galleries presented in the virtual space of Krasnodar are a combination of an exhibition hall, a space for the implementation of cultural projects and the actual sale of works of art; art galleries of Krasnodar as a social and educational project aimed at developing the aesthetic feelings and artistic taste of city residents. Based on the analysis of the material from in-depth interviews with gallery owners, it was revealed that the main goal of the activities of galleries and exhibition venues is to preserve the artistic heritage of the region, popularize regional and national fine arts, focusing on the widest possible audience. The lack of a single digital resource on which gallery owners could post a variety of information about their galleries, their features and services offered was highlighted as one of the main problems in the activities of art galleries in the cultural space of the city.
