ROLE OF BLOOD VISCOSITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKIN ULCER (DIABETIC FOOT) IN TYPE-1 AND TYPE-2 DIABETICS.

View through CrossRef
Aims & Objectives: Objective of the study was to determine the role of blood viscosity in thedevelopment of skin ulcer (diabetic foot) in type-1 and type-2 diabetics.Materials and Methods: The present study was carried out on type-1 and type-2 diabetics taken from skinand medical outpatient department of Saidu Teaching Hospital. A group of healthy subjects was collectedfrom general population of the area. Each group comprised of 30 subjects. Body weight, height, body massindex, fasting blood sugar, fibrinogen, albumin and globulin concentration, relative blood, plasma andserum viscosity were measured and compared. Results: Fasting blood sugar, fibrinogen, albumin and globulin concentration, relative blood, plasma andserum viscosity were significantly raised (p<0.05) in type-1 diabetics than type-2 diabetics and highlysignificantly raised (p<0.01) than control healthy subjects. Conclusion: The onset of complications is different in the two groups of diabetics (type-1 and type-2),earlier in type-1 diabetics and delayed in type-2 diabetics. Key words: Blood viscosity, diabetes and diabetic foot.
