Socio-Economic Profile of Rubber Cultivators: A Micro-Empirical Study in Hilly Tripura

The study highlighted the socio-economic development of a village in the hilly region of Tripura in India. The diversified geographical features differentiated the standard of living. Tripura is a small and hilly state in the North East region of India. A large proportion of population of the state lives in the hilly region and depends on forestry products for their livelihood. Development of the people remains the key challenge. Consequently, the purpose of the present research is to focus on the development of the people in the hilly region of Tripura. We purposively selected the village in the state. The inhabitants of the village primarily depend on forestry products for their livelihoods. Rubber is one of the significant forest products and a key source of income for the rural population in the village. Several households of the village in hilly Tripura are involved in rubber plantation and earn a higher level of income. The research analysed the socioeconomic profile using household survey data. The study found remarkable progress in the socio-economic profile of the households.
