I. Comparison of Angus, Charolais—Angus, South Devon—Angus, Hereford—Angus, and Friesian—Angus steers

A trial was undertaken to compare the carcass composition of purebred Angus and crossbred Charolais‐Angus, South Devon‐Angus, Hereford‐Angus, and Friesian‐Angus steers. The preslaughter, hot carcass, boneless meat, and bone weights ranked from heaviest to lightest in the following order: Charolais‐Angus, Friesian‐Angus, South Devon‐Angus, Hereford‐Angus, and Angus‐Angus. The Friesian‐Angus had the heaviest weight of excess fat and the lowest percentage of meat, whereas the Charolais‐Angus had the lowest weight of fat and the highest percentage of meat of the breeds compared.
