Low-Order Modeling of Pitching Moment on a Rapidly Pitching Airfoil

View through CrossRef
In this work, we present a low-order model to predict the variation in pitching moment on an airfoil undergoing rapid pitching. The model consists of two key components: first, a linear parameter-varying (LPV) model to predict the lift on the rapidly pitching airfoil and, second, a similar LPV model to capture the variation in the moment arm. The combination of these two models provides an efficient low-order framework for predicting the pitching moment during rapid pitching motions. All the terms in the model have physical meanings, and only four constant parameters need to be trained in the model.
